Efficiency: The Key to Environmental Protection

May 2024

This environmental policy applies to all companies of the BARBE Group of Companies, including:

  • Hans W. Barbe Chemische Erzeugnisse GmbH
  • Barbe (Thailand) Ltd.
  • Barbe America, Inc.

We, the BARBE Group of Companies, are providers of integrated process solutions for the surface coating of polymers. We offer our customers surface-active process aids and automation equipment for their processing. The chemical products we offer are produced in our plants in Germany, the USA, and Thailand.

As a signatory of the UN Global Compact, we are firmly committed to its ten principles, which include the protection of human rights, compliance with labor standards, environmental protection, and the fight against corruption. We acknowledge and accept our responsibility to society and the environment.

We strive to minimize our ecological footprint and promote biodiversity. We achieve this through measures aimed at climate protection, efficient use of resources, waste prevention, and risk reduction for people and the environment.

Climate Protection

We aim to contribute to climate protection by promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Mitigating global warming helps prevent a decline in biodiversity.

We aim to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions caused by our actions, considering both direct and indirect emissions.

Our procurement policy reflects our clear commitment to our procurement obligations. All procurement options are also evaluated based on their CO2 footprint, with a lower footprint positively affecting the evaluation of the respective option.

We produce our products in three plants on three continents. This allows us to consider local raw material sources with short transport routes for procurement. We can supply our customers from the plant that allows for the lowest emission transport. In addition, we promote the local presence of our sales and customer service teams to minimize emissions caused by travel activities.

Resource Efficiency and Waste Prevention

We continuously strive to increase the efficiency of our solutions: Our products should be manufactured with the least possible resource use to effectively achieve the required effect in the process for our customers.

By using carefully selected raw materials and operating supplies, implementing a high degree of automation in our production facilities, and using modern technologies and organizational measures, we work specifically to minimize the amounts of waste, hazardous waste, and wastewater.

Risk Reduction for People and the Environment

We focus on minimizing risks to people and the environment and place the highest importance on the safety of handling raw materials and operating supplies, as well as the safety of our production facilities. Wherever possible, we avoid the use and handling of hazardous substances.

Information and Communication

We maintain an open and cooperative relationship with authorities and the local community, especially regarding our environmental protection efforts. By promoting awareness and active community participation in our environmental initiatives, we strengthen the commitment to our sustainability goals.

Our code of conduct for employees ensures compliance with our ethical standards and practices in daily business operations. The code is mandatory for all BARBE employees and explicitly references our environmental policy. All employees are encouraged to actively implement environmental protection at their respective workplaces and are trained as needed. Our employees are comprehensively informed about the environmental policy. The management regularly reviews, adjusts, and makes improvements to this policy to achieve the set environmental goals.

The environmental policy of the BARBE Group of Companies is a living document that reflects our commitment to environmental protection. It serves as the foundation for our daily actions and long-term planning to make a positive contribution to a more sustainable and just world.
